When it comes to breastfeeding, it is a skill that you need to learn and perfect. If you search for breastfeeding articles, you will come across a myriad of articles which touch on a variety of topics. However, you may not have the time to go through these posts, as you have to take care of your child.
Luckily, there is a chatbot which acts as the hub of information for breastfeeding. Known as Check with Ellie, the chatbot provides a wide variety of information, such as recommendations, visual instructions, tips, tools and more. Some of the best lactation consultants along with mothers came together to give this chatbot valuable data. The chatbot is available 24/7, allowing you to use its services as per your convenience. Let’s take a proper look at this chatbot to see what it has to offer.
Check with Ellie, an important health chatbot for mothers and pregnant women is available on Facebook Messenger, a popular messaging platform. It makes a lot of sense for the developers to use this platform, as it has a large user base all over the world. If you think about it, this chatbot can give women information during odd times of the day, when they are unable to contact their regular doctors.
Just like most of the chatbots on this platform, you need to activate it before you can start any form of interaction. After selecting “Get Started,” the chatbot will give you a small introduction about itself. Since you may not have experience in interacting with chatbots, Check with Ellie will ask you if you want to find out how it works.
Right off the bat, it is safe to say that the chatbot is user-friendly. It gives you a rundown on how you can use this chatbot to get information about breastfeeding. For instance, it tells you that you can use the hamburger icon, which will help you if you get lost in conversation. At the same time, it tells you that you can continue to use the chatbot without typing, as there may be situations when you have a baby in your hands.
Once all the formalities are out of the way, the chatbot will ask you when you gave birth to your little one. You can select from zero all the way to over 30 days. Don’t worry if you are still pregnant, as you can still use the chatbot to learn about breastfeeding.
For this review, we decided to select “0 – 5 days,” to test the chatbot. Check with Ellie gave us the following options:
- Milk supply
- Breast discomfort
- Nipple pain
- Clogged ducts
- Get help now
Looking at the menu, we can say it is quite common for mothers to ask these questions to doctors. After selecting “Milk supply,” the chatbot gave us facts about this topic in the form of cards. For instance, it told us how long you should breastfeed your child, its importance, and when you can start using formula.
Similarly, the chatbot has more topics, which allow you to go deeper into this subject. For example, you can choose from “Timeline,” “Success checklist,” “Increase supply,” “Decrease supply,” and “Weaning,” to name a few. The chatbot suggested starting with “Timeline,” so that you become familiar with the subject. Upon selecting “Timeline,” the chatbot breaks down the breastfeeding cycle into different parts so that you can digest this information easily.
Moving on, we decided to check out the other features of the chatbot, to see those options provide the same depth of information. After clicking on “Breast discomfort,” the chatbot talks about this subject and informs you it is quite normal. As it will take time for the discomfort to disappear, the chatbot suggests simple remedies to help alleviate the pain. After providing these tips, the chatbot will ask you if they were helpful. If you say no, the chatbot will ask you if you want to find a lactation consultant, who will help you out with this problem. You also have the option of learning how to ensure your little one latches properly, to avoid discomfort.
As the chatbot suggested to improve on latching, we decided to dwell on this topic. Check with Ellie will send a latching video, with step-by-step instructions on how to improve this technique. At the same time, you can find out if your little one is getting adequate amounts of milk. If you select this option, the chatbot will ask you a series of questions. In the end, the chatbot display tips and tricks, which will ensure that your baby gets vital nutrients and continues to remain healthy.
Check with Ellie is a great breastfeeding chatbot available on Facebook Messenger. It has access to ample amounts of information to ensure that you become a master in breastfeeding. At the same time, it will also help you find lactation consultants if you are facing any problems or difficulties.
