Coach Bill is a Facebook Messenger chatbot, designed to help you with your finances. It will take you through a finance course which covers topics such as building credit, budgeting, and saving. How is the chatbot going to perform when we test out its features? Let’s see if it lives up to our expectations!

Features

First up, you have to activate the chatbot as it uses Facebook Messenger as its primary platform. Click “Get Started” at the bottom of the screen to bring the chatbot to life. The chatbot will introduce itself and tell you about its functions. Before you proceed using this chatbot, you must enter your name. It’s strange that the chatbot cannot pull your name from your Facebook profile. Nevertheless, the chatbot will inform you that there are four levels of the course that you need to complete. The course is broken down to make it easier for the users. Also, the chatbot will ask you about which topic interests you the most. The chatbot uses your answer as feedback so that the developer can customize the content to match the needs of the users. However, this feature is still in its developmental stages, which means that it won’t affect the chatbot’s behavior.

The chatbot will share an image which contains all the details about the online course. You get to know about all the topics in the course. It also highlights the output after every module. As there are four levels, you can start any of them by typing in the necessary commands. For example, if you wish to move to the second module, you can type “Start Level 2.”

In the first module, the chatbot will teach you to establish a goal for monthly savings and personal budget. The first question the chatbot will ask you is how much money you want to start saving in a week. Depending on your answer, the chatbot will tell you how much you will save in five years. It will also tell you how much you can make from your savings, if you choose to invest it wisely. The chatbot will also inquire about your ability to save your money effectively. You can enter any number ranging from 1 – 10. The chatbot will also show you a simple pie chart on how to budget your finances. The chatbot will inform you that you can give your feedback so that the developer can work on the pie chart to improve its effectiveness. The chatbot will also ask you if you can share the amount on your paycheck. If you agree to do so, it will break down your paycheck so that you can start saving money accordingly. The chatbot will give you tips on how you can save more money from your paycheck. Also, the chatbot will show you a picture of what you can do with the money you save.

After the completion of the first level, you can move to the next level. In the second module of the course, the chatbot will teach you the basics of banking. First, the chatbot will find out if you know about the different types of bank accounts. If you say no, the chatbot will inquire whether you have a checkings account with any bank. Again, if the answer is no, the chatbot will share an image which highlights the difference between online and traditional checking accounts. The chatbot will then attempt to find out which type of bank account is perfect for your requirements. It will ask you a series of questions and suggest the bank account type according to your answers. The chatbot will even give you a list of reasons as to why it chose that specific bank account. Even if you do know the basics of banking, the chatbot will still show you how to open a checkings account with a bank. It will also help you in other aspects of banking by breaking down the various elements.
