Features

As the chatbot uses Facebook Messenger as its primary platform, you will have to use the “Discover” tab to find Gradbot. You can start a conversation with the chatbot, just like you are talking to another human being. For starters, when you say “hello” or anything similar, the chatbot will give you a brief introduction about its features.

According to the developers, the chatbot is useful only once it gets to know more about the user. Gradbot will ask you to pick from the following categories so that it can provide valuable advice:

  • Work
  • Study
  • Work & Study
  • No Idea
  • Food for thought plz

Let’s assume that you want to find out more about the category “Work.” Upon selecting this option, the chatbot will ask you whether you are an A-level student, Poly student, ITE student or if you are curious to know more.

Depending on what you select, the chatbot will give you the necessary information. For example, let’s say that you are an “A-level” student. The chatbot will select from the following options:

  • Get Started
  • SkillsFuture
  • Track my Career & Training

When you click on “Get Started,” the chatbot will tell you about a Singapore-based website where you can search for jobs based on your skill. It also informs you that if you want some guidance on the development of your career, then you can head to WorkForce Singapore’s official website for professional advice.

Upon selecting “SkillsFuture,” the chatbot will find out if you want “work trial,” “p-max,” or “SkillsFuture Advice.” “Work Trial” allows you to get work on a short-term basis, before converting it into a full-time job. The chatbot also provides a link so that you get additional information about this service. Similarly, when you choose “p-max,” the chatbot suggests that you can work with Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).

When you select “Track my Career & Training,” the chatbot gives you a link to show you how MySkillsFuture helps in career and skill development. The chatbot also provides a small description about MySkillsFuture as not everyone is aware of this platform.

When you select “Study,” the chatbot will ask you which education path you want to follow. If you want to just know more about the different options available to you, select “Just to know more.” Here the chatbot gives you a variety of information that will help you make the right choice. For example, when you want to find out more about “Private education,” the chatbot will tell you to be careful with your decision. It also has a series of questions in place, which will let you know if you are ready for “Private Education.” Let’s say you want to know the benefits of further studies, the chatbot will give you extensive information on why it’s a good choice as a student. The chatbot also provides an image of a “Graduate Employment Survey” which shows the impact of higher studies. Gradbot has an “Explore & Read” option, where it shares a link to get news about education.

If you don’t know your next step in life, click on “no idea.” Here the chatbot will try to help you out by educating about MySkillsFuture. If you want to know where to start, the chatbot provides a link to MySkillsFuture, where you can learn more about this initiative. It also shares a link to an e-book which talks about the decisions made by 54 different people.

When you select “Food for thought pls,” the chatbot shares facts about employment, private education, and MySkillsFuture.

After every interaction with the chatbot, it will ask you if it can help you with other topics. If you say yes, the chatbot goes back to the main menu. When you say no, the chatbot will tell you about MySkillsFuture app, available on both Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Also, the chatbot will ask you to rate it, so that its developers can continue to improve its services and content.
